Call for Nominations 2020

ISPA is now accepting nominations for the several positions on the ISPA Board. Nominations are needed for President Elect and Secretary, as well as representative positions for the following AEAs: Central Rivers, Grant Wood, Great Prairie (2), Green Hills (2), Keystone, Mississippi Bend, Northwest, and Prairie Lakes.

More information about the specific responsibilities is available in the ISPA Bylaw or by communicating with current board members.

Please submit nominations by emailing kerri.clopton@uni.edu. Nominations will be accepted through February 15, 2020. Feel free to nominate yourself for a position!

Legislative Update 1/24/2020

Committee Approves ISPA Legislative Ask!

On a unanimous vote, the Senate Education Committee gave its go ahead to an ISPA Legislative Priority.

The bill, Senate File 2081 (formerly Senate Study Bill 3020) requires schools to include the telephone number and text line of the Your Life Iowa suicide prevention line on school student ID cards for students in junior high through high school.

Legislative Session Update 01/17/2020

Governor Proposes Keeping School Mental Health Awareness Appropriation!

Included in her proposed budget for fiscal year 2021 is the continuation of an ISPA backed appropriation for school mental health training.

Last year lawmakers approved a new $2.1 million appropriation for mental health awareness training for educators and schools; for area education agencies to be used to identify a range of approaches to best meet the mental health needs of students and to strengthen community support for students; and for area education agencies to create a clearinghouse of mental health resources for use by schools and community providers.
