WHAT IS A DAY AT THE
CAPITOL?

A day at the Capitol provides an opportunity
for school social workers and school
psychologists to come together and educate
state lawmakers about how we address
student barriers to learning and academic
success in cost effective ways. This is a
professional development day, not a political
lobby day.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

  • Current or past school social workers and
    school psychologists
  • Students interested in the field of social work
    or psychology
  • Friends and supporters of school social
    work, school psychology, school mental
    health services, and public education

LEARNING GOALS

  1. Deepen your understanding of current
legislation which impacts education and the
    students, families, schools, and communities
    we serve.
  2. Identify effective ways to advocate and share
your story with key policymakers to influence
    change.
  3. Initiate and/or build relationships with
    legislative representatives and association
    lobbyist.
  4. Practice developing effective messaging to
    impact public policy change.
