NASP Delegate Letter September 2013

I hope you are back in the swing of things for the school year. I would like to share some resources available to you as part of your NASP membership that will help you in your work.

The American School Counselor Association (ASCA), the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP), and the School Social Work Association of America (SSWAA) are working together to provide schools, families, and communities resources to help increase awareness, understanding, and tolerance of mental health issues and mental illness in our society. We have joined with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) to help promote and facilitate school assemblies on mental health to answer President Obama’s call for a National Dialogue on Mental Health. For information and resources on leading a school assembly on mental health awareness, visit http://www.nasponline.org/resources/mental-health/mental-health-assemblies.aspx.

Don’t forget to register to attend the webinar ‘Developing High Quality Counseling IEPs’ on September 25 at 1:00 p.m. EDT. This webinar, a $30 value, is FREE for NASP members and offers an invaluable opportunity to learn how to effectively incorporate counseling into the IEP process, and understand the unique benefits of counseling service. The live format lets you ask your questions directly to the authors of ‘School Psychologist as Counselor,’ Dr. Cynthia Plotts and Dr. Jon Lasser. Plus, you’ll earn 1 hour of documented NASP-, APA-, and NBCC-approved CPD for attending. You must register at https://nasp.inreachce.com/Details/Information/d883efef-cc04-41a5-ad14-e816070f1040 to be included in this webinar!
