NASP Delegate Letter May 2014

As we round the corner of spring and head into summer, it’s my pleasure to keep you updated with everything going on over at NASP. There’s a lot to share this month.

Your NASP membership will expire on June 30. If you’re like me, you value your membership and the access to school psychology resources, handouts, research, and discounts it affords you. Renew today at www.nasponline.org/membership, and you can divide your dues across three installments.

NASP is proud to take part in Mental Health Awareness Month this May! This is a great time to highlight the importance of mental wellness and school-based mental health services to children’s positive learning and development. This year, NASP is participating as a contributing partner in both the Child Mind Institute’s Speak Up for Kids campaign and the “I Care By” campaign. Please visit www.nasponline.org/resources/mentalhealth/mental-health-awareness-month.aspx for more details on resources, events, and what you can do to get involved.

New issues of Communiqué, School Psychology Review, and School Psychology Forum are now available online. The May Communiqué includes articles on mentally healthy but unhappy students, diagnostic changes to gender dysphoria in DSM-5, diabetes in school-age children, and more. School Psychology Review covers reading assessment and intervention, and School Psychology Forum addresses the subject of school psychologists as allies and advocates for LGBTQ students. All of the new issues may be viewed at www.nasponline.org/publications/periodicals.aspx

Submit a proposal to speak at the NASP 2015 Annual Convention, taking place February 17–20, 2015, in Orlando, FL! The Call for Presentation Proposal Submission System will be open through June 11. Information on how to compose a successful proposal is available at www.nasponline.org/conventions/2015/call-for-presentations.aspx.

Tomorrow is the last day to save on your registration for the NASP 2014 Summer Conferences. Whether you’re planning on joining us in Pittsburgh, PA, July 7–9, Las Vegas, NV, July 21–23, or both, you can save up to $60 for each location if you register now. See a full list of sessions and register online at www.nasponline.org/summer.

Join fellow school psychologists, administrators, and graduate students in Washington, DC for the 2014 GW/NASP Public Policy Institute! Choose between a 3-Day Basic Training (July 16–18) or a 5-Day Advanced Training (July 16–18 and 21–22), both of which offer NASP-approved CPD credit.  Learn about supporting students’ resilience in the family, school, and community and how to advocate for the school psychology profession. You can register at www.nasponline.org/advocacy/ppi/2014/index.aspx.

Thank you for your NASP membership this year.

Sincerely,
